Just let me be

Just let me be

A Poem by Julie Beth

What’s wrong with your face

Why haven’t you lost weight

You’ve got bad grades

There is no “You’re perfect the way you are”

You bring out the worst in me

Why can’t you see

I just want you to love me for being me

I’m sorry I have acne

I put three creams on my face

Twice a day just hoping it’ll go away

Just hoping to please you

I’m sorry I’m not stick thin

I’m watching what I eat and exercise daily

Can’t you see I’m trying

I’m sorry I don’t get straight A’s

I get A’s and B’s with the occasional C

I tell you I try hard

But you don’t believe me

Did you ever think

That maybe instead of picking

At every freaking flaw I have

You could tell me

Its okay you have acne

You can’t help it

Its okay to get a C every once in a while

As long as you’re trying hard

And it’s okay that you’re not stick thin

I still love you the way you are

Why can’t you just let me be

Accept that I’m not like my brother

Because in the end

No matter what I do

It won’t be good enough for you
