Honesty

Honesty

A Poem by Jasmine Smith

Blinders covering the eyes, blocking the vision

Keeping the called from seeing the mission

Walking around blind to the truth

Lost believe the lies because the found show no proof

Fear holds their hearts in its hands

Shame holds the key to the chain that strangles them

Why are we so scared, what are we afraid of

Living in shame instead of love

Shame controls their tongue, keeps them from speaking

Memory closed tightly to keep the past from leaking

What if we were to say something out loud?

What if we spoke with a voice that was proud?

Imagine if we announced our failure, told our sin

While explaining why we do not go there again

But we cannot, held back by our own kind

Erasing the words as we write the lines

Christians keeping Christians from telling the truth

Keeping them from pulling up the dead roots

There are people walking around dealing with what you did once

While you’re walking around like your perfect, like it will get you points

Maybe one word, maybe one confession would save their soul

Saving them from eternal damnation should be your goal

They feel alone because you walk around with shut lips

They will never know that they are not the only one that trips

The church has become so judgmental and cause people to keep quiet

While the world goes around like a riot

They are not afraid to confess

Yet we would never admit that we were in a mess

Something is wrong and needs to be changed around

Stop being quiet and make some sound

Stop making people think you are perfect

You make it seem like you are worth it

But you weren’t, you mess up like everyone else

Jesus was the only one that did not need help

Open your mouth and do not be ashamed

Everything happened for a reason, do not be ashamed

Don’t leave them alone because you never know who can help

God didn’t give you that story to keep to yourself

Share that you were once gay

Tell that little girl that you were also once raped

Tell that boy that you were addicted to pornography too

Confess that drugs is something you struggled through

Explain to them how God changed your life

How he shed his blood and made you right

I dare you to admit you’re not perfect

Tell them that you are not worth it

They need to know, you could save their life

Help them with their sight

Uncover your eyes and see the hurting and alone

Reach out your hand, pick up that phone

It’s time for Christians to be transparent and open

You were once trapped in sin and the world needs to know it
