The Silence

The Silence

A Poem by Priya Tyagi

On many black velvet nights
when the moon and the stars
have deserted me
in that sort of vengeance
my old lovers claim
I lie enveloped
in the arms of my mistress
Ah! my loneliness,
my forsaken friend
She sings to me sad lullabys
And clings to me
giving no warmth,
just coldness
Filling my heart with despair
With only a devastating whisper
She brings back forlorn memories
And inspite of the darkness
and the wretched silence
She engulfs me and,
Bestows upon me visions
Visions of what was,
what is,
and what it could have been
If I had only listened to my heart
If I had only followed intrepidly,
my long lost dreams

this mistress feels like the muse...she can be very cold and unyielding on nights when we really need her warmth...and she can be nothing but painful memories that move our fingers over the keys.
