Beantown Backstage

Beantown Backstage

A Poem by Pete
"

I am struck by the simplicity of light in the atmosphere in the autumn, as if the earth absorbed none, and out of this profusion of dazzling light came the autumnal tints. - Thoreau

"
Image result for sun glistening on water

The harbor sparkled in cerulean blue.
Sporting the bling of a diamond necklace.
Kissing the skyline where equinoctial lips met.
Neighborly seagulls floated nearby upon early autumn iridescence.
Jetliners escaped from the airport overhead.
Bound for everywhere and nowhere.
A row of bleached, gaberdine clouds stretched across the horizon, marking the knowing way.
I sat on a bench nearby, inhaling the scene.
Can you see what I mean ...

Author's Note

Pete
"In summer we live out of doors, and have only impulses and feelings, which are all for action, and must wait commonly for the stillness and longer nights of autumn and winter before any thought will subside; we are sensible that behind the rustling leaves, and the stacks of grain, and the bare clusters of the grape, there is the field of a wholly new life, which no man has lived; that even this earth was made for more mysterious and nobler inhabitants than men and women. In the hues of October sunsets, we see the portals to other mansions than those which we occupy." - Thoreau

One thing I love is how you mix natural observations with those about humans, showing the way these two worlds overlap. The other thing I love is that long-a*s line . . . bleached gabardine clouds . . . wow! That's what we wish we'd written! *wink! wink!* I love the way the sea looks taking off from one of our coastal airports -- when summer fog hasn't socked in Monterey viewing for miles out to sea, that is! Indeed I can. Your words capture the scene beautifully. Perhaps we don't notice such views often enough.

' Sporting the bling of a diamond necklace. - Kissing the skyline where equinoctial lips met.' A clever touch of modern and ancient here./, the words 'bling' and equinoctial lips.. . This really is a glistening of phrases, Pete.. and yes, can indeed see. The accompanying picture is lovely too. Your friend, Mr. T., must applaud you.
