Can You Sea Me?

Can You Sea Me?

A Poem by Pete
"

The sea-shore is a sort of neutral ground, a most advantageous point from which to contemplate the world. -Thoreau

there's something about the sea
drawing me
accusing me
judging me
freeing me
always lending a sympathetic ear to an urgent plea
attracting like a magnet
capturing like a fishing net
shallow and deep
pulling up and pushing down
the waves
the tide
alive
listening
glistening
positioning
frightening in a storm
dead in israel and jordan
rolling into forever
there whenever
however
whomever
for any endeavor
no matter how foolhardy or clever

beckoning
reckoning
connecting
always in the midst of shifting gears
enough room for life's saline tears
and all the dark years
never saying, "nope"
it's life
love
rejection
possibilities
faith
fate
destiny
pain
understanding
rescue
comfort
and

hope

Author's Note

Pete
"The sea, vast and wild as it is, bears thus the waste and wrecks of human art to its remotest shore. There is no telling what it may not vomit up. He is the best sailor who can steer within the fewest points of the wind, and extract a motive power out of the greatest obstacles." - Thoreau

I love your Thoreau quite Pete. What poet can resist the call of the sea? None that I know for sure and you have captured in this write the vast number of reasons why. The sea with its moods and visual delights is a feast for all types of artists all over the world and everyone else as well. Whether it be in words or paint long may it continue. Thank you for reminding me I am due a visit. Been six months since I was in Brixham, how I miss it. All the best to you.

Yes I can,.... :)

I can also 'sea' within this gorgeous write a contemplative mind. One that has a profound understanding of the sea and they way it taps into emotions. These emotions which are driven by almost every decision made in life.., from waking up in the morning deciding on breakfast choice... to what to watch on tv. These are just a few of which all have an affect on our daily moods. A tidal wave of deep emotions throughout this thought provoking write.. and what a beautiful tranquil setting to contemplate those very thoughts....... loved this one Pete ..... :)

The sea has long been a metaphor for life. After the carnage at the end of "Moby Dick," the sea rolls on as it has ever done. All the qualities noted in this piece are always open to us. For we are part of that sea.

Hello, Pete, I enjoy the sea too; mostly for fishing and listening to the surf. Thanks for sharing.
