Who Fired Ronald McDonald?

Who Fired Ronald McDonald?

A Poem by Pete

Justice is sweet and musical; but injustice is harsh and discordant. - Thoreau

Clown sightings: Ronald McDonald keeps low profile amid creepy craze | Clowns | The Guardian

refusing to bow for informal introductions
unwilling to give in
your name mud
trail dry like a raisin
you ate the first french fry and the last piece of apple pie
choking on yet another lie
where went the rhyme
where went the time
where went the peace sign along with peace of mind

you asked yourself, "why?"
why is it better to die than cry
better to tell the truth than lie
better to kneel when you kiss the sky

the other shoe won't drop
pinko lights and carmine signs never stop
market is closed
manifesto composed
body decomposed
world opposed
somewhere lost in the throws

when is the beginning the end and the end the beginning
how do you know when you're winning
who puts up the tents at an unfair
is it the same one who takes them down
who paints the smile on a disemboweled clown
how come when you need a friend
there's never one around
who fired ronald mcdonald
now i have to scream into a speaker
as the meek get meeker
with one shoe and one sneaker
whilst the rich and powerful get smoother and sleeker

Author's Note

Pete
"I wish my countrymen to consider that whatever the human law may be, neither an individual nor a nation can ever commit the least act of injustice against the obscurest individual without having to pay the penalty for it. A government which deliberately enacts injustice, and persists in it, will at length even become the laughing-stock of the world." - Thoreau

Fired, demoted, expired...The powers that be, no justice for thee, laughingstock with glee...
Poor Ronald, Donald and even Arnold...
Winners and losers, rich and the poor, the powerful and the weak...
A powerful message...
