Living Above The Fray

Living Above The Fray

A Poem by Pete
"

Only that day dawns to which we are awake. There is more day to dawn. The sun is but a morning star. - Thoreau

SouthlakeDPS on Instagram: “This fog wearing a hat (aka

as obscurity rolls in like mist from the river platte
donning an enubilous foghat
tell me a secret
show me a lie
the way that rain can't fall from parted clouds in the sky
we'll pardon the day and stone the night
drawn by the judgement of a full moon so bright

take my hand as we find our way
making seeing eye mud by spitting in clay
no apologies, few regrets
of this i pray, of this faith sweats
that's just how it goes
walking on water as tribulations crash against a boat with doubting spray
come what will, come what may
each and every day

living above the fray

Author's Note

Pete
“The morning, which is the most memorable season of the day, is the awakening hour. Then there is least somnolence in us; and for an hour, at least, some part of us awakes that slumbers all the rest of the day and night. Little is to be expected of that day, if it can be called a day, to which we are not awakened by our Genius, but by the mechanical nudgings of some servitor, are not awakened by our own newly acquired force and aspirations from within.... After a partial cessation of his sensuous life, the soul of man, or its organs rather, are reinvigorated each day, and his Genius tries again what noble life it can make... The Vedas say, "All intelligences awake with the morning." All poets and heroes, like Memnon, are the children of Aurora, and emit their music at sunrise.” - Thoreau

I remember the time (not exact day, hour, etc) that a friend shared with me, " the sun doesn't rise in the morning, the earth sets" I remember sitting on a hillside as we concentrated our vision on the Eastern horizon in front of us and trying to feel the earth rolling forward and carrying us along with it. It was a very moving (no pun intended) experience. Puts me in mind of the song Morning Has Broken made famous by Cat Stevens. Be that as it may, your praise for the morning is excellent. Your wording and rhyme scheme is one of the nicest I have read on the site. Thanks for the post -carl

I like the use of the fray. I have used often the word. Easy to get lost in the fray of life. If we see too much, we may retract to the same place, we left. Nice movement of words and thoughts. I did enjoy and thank you Pete for sharing the amazing poetry.

Really like the flow and rhyme in this piece Pete. It has a real jaunty feel to it. Your description is wonderful. Isn’t nature grand. Hope your day has been filled with bright.

Loved your poem
Very deep

Then I read your note

I write fluently one poem after the other after 4 30 am to about 8. But after that my mind more lazy

Maybe it’s the carbs I ate at breakfast at 8 or maybe the morning song is best sung then
