Hey Joe

Hey Joe

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them. - Thoreau

Origins of the Song “Hey Joe”. From Greenwich Village coffeehouses to… | by Nichola Scurry | The Riff | Medium

you'll find that i mostly let the music do my talking
that way i can turn away and keep walking
like it or not, it holds the key to me
no nouns or verbs to read or see
only adjectives to be
arms raised upwards in the breeze like a tree
a club with glee
that which is divine together in three
stone free

i like to play with fire
regardless of the hour
no matter how much the amps have power
and when i drive by
not to mention feel the need to cry
all i have to do is roll down the window
lick by lick and blow by blow
it matters only where the song takes you and not where you want to go
always with the flow
no trite, "hello"
without even opening my mouth to utter a word
i greet you with

hey joe

Author's Note

Pete
"In Homer and Chaucer there is more of the innocence and serenity of youth than in the more modern and moral poets. The Iliad is not Sabbath but morning reading, and men cling to this old song, because they still have moments of unbaptized and uncommitted life, which give them an appetite for more." - Thoreau
