Double Jeopardy

Double Jeopardy

A Poem by Pete
"

A man sits as many risks as he runs. - Thoreau

"
Double jeopardy bars retrial on acquitted summary offense

our love a tragedy
never able to find the missing key
victim of leather lethargy
nefarious lechery
on pillows so seemingly feathery
together with your uncanny telepathy
you couldn't just leave it be
"whatever", you would rollover and say to me

when will you ever see
you wasted my time and energy
singing the same old, lame, outdated melody
over-salted nunchucks of celery your weaponry
your kisses always tasting peppery
cleverly practicing covert treachery
wherever we might be
in need of an intercessory
caught in this sick, twisted, losing round of

double jeopardy

Author's Note

Pete
"A person who chooses to die or to risk death demonstrates that there are values, principles, maxims, that are more valuable to him than is life itself. In short, he places his immortal self above his mortal self. Nothing goes by luck in composition. It allows of no tricks. The best you can write will be the best you are." - Thoreau
