Feel Free To Cut In

Feel Free To Cut In

A Poem by Pete
"

We have the St. Vitus' dance, and cannot possibly keep our heads still. - Thoreau

Premium Photo | He expresses himself through dance shot of a handsome young man dancing against a gray background

dancing with myself
floating 'pon a frozen crystal in the arctic shelf
north pole like a terpischorean elf

strutting with no one but me
adrift on the south pacific sea
indian ocean of who i'm meant to be

over the moon
behind the sun
beyond the stars at all hours
bottom of the sea
rhythm and melody holding the key
feel free to agree

mountain peaks
subterranean valleys
especially life's wicked, dark, back alleys
keeping musical score without the choreographed, wayward tallies

Hey Pete,

I used to love dancing - my early, romantic life was largely dependent upon it and I was always in the habit of moving like no one else was watching (to my later, adult embarrassment).

I get a footloose vibe from this, and picture you as a glacial Kevin Bacon making the most out of long winter days. : ) The soundtrack adds to it a bit, and I definitely appreciate the impulse to say 'f**k it', throw my beer bottle at the bannisters and to tear the roof off a mf. (excuse the language).

As for the extreme north, I grew up there and have a hard time holding my tongue when presented with the opportunity. There's a CBC doc that was done on the community I'm from, and opted to share it here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgWC5oEuyjU

A lot of parallels in it that might pique your interest, but at the very least it's where my moniker comes from (names in the Kivalliq are inherited, mine was given by members of the community). I went to school with almost everyone featured in the doc.

Anyways, cheers Pete - hope you're warm,

-Ook

Pete,
I hope the people of the north have better rhythm than folks around here... Only a few of us have heard the music and even know it's a dance at all... I prefer to Tango...
