My interpretation: sea has human qualities as it flows, rages, and slaps but never stops. Sea and shore~ water and earth elements. They bear with each other's extreme soft and hard qualities. No matter how strong sea (we) thrashes, we cannot change the equation. Being a water element, we have adopted the quality of acceptance. It has multidimension. I just Love your way with imagery and brevity!

I much prefer the lapping of water on my feet tickling my toes. This haiku wasn’t so gentle. I felt the slap. Nature has her moods, just like our own species. Apologies though, can work wonders:) So creative Pete is this haiku. Visual too.

lovely interpretation. nature can be stern but gentle as well. it is too divine to ever intend harm and there is purpose even in its harshness. occasional prunings encourage growth. balance is the word.

why not - given enough time, water wears down rock plus water can move whereas rock cannot. so rock is at the mercy of water .

I think of rock and water as the same things just in different states. It's a constant exchange of chemicals and neither truly exists without the other. It would be like apologizing to your parents for existing.
