the other day

passing by a shivering, homeless man begging for money

a sweatshirt hood pulled up over his head

"oh great, another one", i said to myself

"probably wants it so he can buy booze from the top shelf"

curious, i went closer to him as i desired his face to see

eventually as he turned, i got a good look at him

he looked so lonely, sad and grim

it was me

i have always felt an empathy towards the homeless. i do not know why, i have always been well-off, but i always found it easy imagining myself in their shoes. to become homeless, one is broken from the inside. i guess that's me. im only lucky that support systems exist for me, otherwise id be out there in the cold.
most don't think it could ever happen to them. but it can happen to any of us. few are grateful for the people that are therefor them.
