The Last Piece of Pie

The Last Piece of Pie

A Poem by Pete
"

My life has been the poem I could have writ but I could not both live and utter it. - Thoreau

"
Last Piece of Pie - Family Shield ...

why was i born
how will i die
will anyone cry
will the forworn river stop to pay respects or is it too shy
give me more credit than i deserve so i can continue to buy
pound your chest as you exclaim, "me oh my"

is heaven an obscure, formidable lie
when birds take flight, they never bother saying goodbye
as jimi said, 'scuse me while i kiss the sky'
save your bungee chord tears and insincere sigh
give it to the other guy
save it for the last piece of pie

Excellent work. The rhyme brings it home.
