Go Fly A Kite

Go Fly A Kite

A Poem by Pete
"

I know a good woman who thinks that her son lost his life because he took to drinking water only. - Thoreau

"
No more kites at Boxcar Park :( : r/everett

down at the park by the inlet
rocks hold the water back
but not the tears
on the other side of that, seemingly on dry land
empty beer bottles and plastic nips rattle about
wrinkled bags that once held weed blow in the breeze
cigarette butts and spent roaches
velcroed cloth and rubber tourniquets
spent condoms, their wrappers and homeless semen

swallowing little, round things
pressing needles into tired veins
dropping acid like car batteries on unsuspecting toes
a real trip
no reservations required
no bags to pack
no tickets to buy
the only lines are high and white
silly me,
all this time i thought that parks were for flying a kite

Author's Note

Pete
"I would fain keep sober always; and there are infinite degrees of drunkenness. I believe that water is the only drink for a wise man; wine is not so noble a liquor; and think of dashing the hopes of a morning with a cup of warm coffee, or of an evening with a dish of tea! Ah, how low I fail when I am tempted by them!" - Thoreau

This piece reminds me of signs you might see cemented at various spots around Australia, by a river, or beach, or warm Cove of the woods: "Crown land. No camping" -- as if the queen of England doesn't have a bed of her own already, and laying a pillow by the river were an unsavoury act of humanity...
Madness beyond madness.
(Far as I'm concerned, they could kiss my arse while I sleep - dreaming of kites)

I like this poem, Pete. With a passion.

You do speak as if you know a thing or two or three.
Some of that stuff I'm not sure but it is put together in excellent fashion!
Your writing turns the dumps into delight, Pete.
I have had wine.
After all the stuff you speak on, I love the ending: "silly me,
all this time i thought that parks were for flying a kite"

Pet,
Wisdom is important... just flavorless. It needs an occasional binge, flight of fancy, or one night stand to add some juice, some flavor, some nutrition...
