First Breath Since Day One

First Breath Since Day One

A Poem by Marie A. Maya

It's been 2 years since I've felt the warmth radiate off your skin.
Since I've heard your humming dance off the walls, finding its way to me.
Since I've tasted your lips on mine.
Since the day I watched you crash your car into the tree
the same way you crashed into my heart freshman year.

Today your voice started to vibrate through my bones
and off the sides of my hallow cranium.
A cold shiver rushed throughout my broken body
and I thought the myself that maybe it's you,
that maybe it's a sign you're still here.
With that, I could breathe knowing I'm not so alone.
