Homecoming

Homecoming

A Poem by Rachel Landes

Whilst unpacking
My Gucci bag
So I can repack
And leave for London

I find
A secret zipper
With six month old
Cigars
And rolling papers
And a gently pressed map
And Dr Dre beats instructions
On how to listen

And then the memory
Of you
Bent over
And discovering the secret fold
Flickers through my mind
Like sunlight
Lighting the sea

And the light of your star shines
Like a footprint
On my soul
Allowing your voice
To awaken me
Within this dream

And when I think about you
After all this time
I now know
Why I fell for you

You see
You looked so much like an angel
That entering your world
Was like
Coming home
To myself

And when our laughter
Wove together
It was the work of a god
Restitching
Broken wings

And now
Reawakened
I wonder
Why fallen angels
Don't dream their way
Back home
To heaven
And why they stay
In a world unravelled

And I also wonder
If the dream is within
And the nightmare without
And if the dreamer
Must dream on
Even after all the other dreamers have gone
Because their story is still untold
And because it takes time
To gather the angels
From their lover's arms
For each homecoming party
