This Nature

This Nature

A Poem by Rae Newsome

hanging by a thread, we dance to the light.

watching the trees bow down and the birds fly high.

we take our last breath and realize how small we are.

our last step reaches for forever and our last touch rises above the ocean.

sparkling waters as far as the eye can see.

the moon waning in and out of sight.

vanishing from reality and into the dark, the sun replaces it.

brightening our souls and lifting our hearts.

defeating our image of surrender and conquering our fear of belief.

the snow covered mountains reminding us of our steep intake of life.

venturing out into the wild, and binding us to this nature.

we stand tall and mighty, refusing to forgo our destiny.

not budging, until the rain has come.

promising to drown out the sorrow, and protect us from thoughts we've only ever imagined.
