Rain

Rain

A Poem by Rachel E Strauch

“it is only rain”

they said

“a little bit of rain won’t hurt anyone”

and yet

every tear that

fell

from the sky

burned

i held my

breath

as those stone cold hands

wrapped

around my heart

squeezing

whatever life i had left

it was gone

my hopes and dreams

formed puddles

and the sidewalks

clung to them

more than i

had ever done

beneath my feet

a puddle

drip

drop

that was once

me

This has a very wide deeper meaning. Personally i love the rain but i can understand the situation in this case. Also really love the structure of this poem as it mirrors the raindrops falling from the sky, distributed and falling at random times and random locations . Well done on this! Rachel

Greetings. You use the rain imagery very well throughout this poem. I think these lines are just lovely-

"i held my

breath

as those stone cold hands

wrapped

around my heart"

"my hopes and dreams
formed puddles
and the sidewalks
clung to them"

I've also felt the stone hands in my throat when I've been crying. This is a beautiful poem.
