Graduation Day

Graduation Day

A Poem by Dirge Graves
"

Wrote this poem a while ago.

"

You would be thirty-six this year,

just in case you were wondering.

Today is not your birthday,

though everyone here is in cheer

Today is graduation day.

It is not the day of your death,

though sorrow lingers in my breath.

Today is graduation day…

I am only eighteen this year,

and I can’t help but wondering

if you would have been there today.

I’m sure the answer should be clear,

but sometimes it’s hard to convey "

with constant empty birthday chairs,

and today can’t ease these nightmares.

Today is graduation day…

Today is graduation day.

I just wish you could have been there.

Is it wrong to wish, to cry?

Wish that you hadn’t fallen prey?

Is it wrong to wish you were here?

You will always be named “father”,

though your memory drifts farther.

You would be thirty-six this year;

today is my graduation day.
