New Home?

New Home?

A Poem by readingblock
"

A war weary soldier contemplates his actions.

"
Against the creamy white clouds
Dark mist falls from the sky
Looking up, I remember
Men, women and children burning in the streets
Drawing angry tears
They never stood a chance
We will have to leave this place
This time without our photo albums
They have long since been seared
Lost but not forgotten
With the innocence of a child
The all consuming inferno speared no one
A dull ache catches my throat
I know what it is this time
A warning
With a heavy heart, I look to the ground
Confusion
The ground is white
Where there should be darkness
There is a blinding light
A boy happily runs into me
Too young to watch his words
He asks with joy known only to children,
"Haven't you ever seen snow before?"

This is hard-hitting. The end really puts things into perspective. Nice writing and welcome to WC.
