Keep Listening

Keep Listening

A Poem by Matthew
"

Never forget to wake up.

"
Blood drops down and we laugh
I don’t know if I’ll ever listen to you
We like to laugh at the things that bring us down
But I like to view it like it’s just a dream, maybe I’ll wake up
Or am I already awake?

But hey, are you listening?
Blood climbs down the walls in order to paint a pretty picture
No one likes to view it’s master piece, but I enjoy the look of it’s crass
Do you know how to live, or are you just guessing?
I think I’m awake in a dream world made from the mind

But hey, are you still listening?
Blood sinks back into my skin and I embrace it as my own
I keep the beat, but I’ll lose it eventually, it’s too bad that we all lose focus in time
I grip the sheets as my mind sends me pictures from the streets
I cry because of all the saddening ways people choose to live, and to die

Hey, pay attention!  Keep listening!  Are you still listening?
Don’t go through life too fast, or the blood may catch up to you
You can’t outrun life, but you can outrun the dream
Will the dream grip you?  Maybe you’ll enjoy the nightmare, or see it as a heaven
I’ll be there waiting for you, if only just to shake you awake from your Hell

But are you still listening?
They will laugh and tear at you, but don’t let them get to you
They want to bring you down, they want to drag you to their level
Don’t let the blood in, and remember to wake up
I’ll be there, for you in time, maybe not now, but someday

Just don’t stop listening
