Grandmother

Grandmother

A Poem by Rebecca

There's nothing left to say, only tears to shed.

Mind's wander back to you, as people lie in bed.

Are you safe? Are you calm?

Is death really ok?

And as you walk to the light with God,

The Goddess holds me at bay.

"It's not you time!" She says to me,

And that I must let you go.

You'll be happy, just wait and see,

And I must willingly accept that so.

I give to you my shining star,

A gem out of my heart.

Hold it tight, keep it safe,

Let me do that part.

The part of support, a grieving family.

Let me tend to them,

Do not fret, they'll be happy,

When normality takes over again.

Soon enough thoughts of you won't bring tears,

Soon enough your pictures won't feel like they lear.

Soon they will laugh, crack a smile or two,

And you can find peace, go to the husband who calls,

Your husband and your oldest son, they do wait for you.

You family will feel better, the one who does ball.

I love you, dear grandmother,

Your smiles and laughs were Heaven on Earth.

Now you're in Heaven, a place you deserve to hover,

Thank you for everything, to my death from my birth.

I will always love you.

'We are gathered here to say goodbye,

But we are not ready.'

'I would've worn darker colors,

But then I heard her laugh..'

'She'd come home from parties,

Dancing and all dolled up.'

'She said we'd go to the movies,

When she got better..'

'She's finally happy, she's with her husband.'

'We love you always, Grandmama.'

This is quite an emotional, powerful gem here. I remember the death of my grandparent, though not the grandma but the grandpa. It was a terrible thing, but slowly I've adjusted. I loved the end quotes from what seems to have been said at the funeral. That was something few would have thought of doing, recording those words, I mean.

My sympathies are with you and your family....losing those we love is never easy. You have penned a beautiful poem that I'm sure will be cherished as much as she was. I thank you for sharing it.
