First Impression Of Artistic Ignorance (or Rap Freestyling)

First Impression Of Artistic Ignorance (or Rap Freestyling)

A Poem by Rebecca Hope Rouston

I heard a rap freestyle the other night
One man turned it to a cursing fight
I began to antagonize him to tell me
How he "saw more than we've seen"

What tool is used to measure this hell?
Create it, and I'm damn sure it'll sell
Because it seems the more that I see
The more I crave to pack up and leave

The battle of fires have turned blue
And no one cares as much as you do
Out of breath describing what you see
But I've never once told you to quit

My beauty won't always be a security
I see a fine line in the levels of purity
Walking a line or walking a curve around
Leaves the same prints in the ground

It's when I stopped caring that I really did
I can just no longer call myself a kid
The answers are out there for me to find
To discover what parts of me are still blind

I wonder why we want all these eyes
Lifted and mounted by so many lies
What I think we're searching to finally know
Is how to send all these memories below

Different from the others of yours that I've read thus far, but just as creative and well written. You write with such a smooth and flowing style, something I had always struggled with in poetry. It is impressive to me.

"Because it seems the more that I see
The more I crave to pack up and leave"

Very potent meaning in those lines! Love the way you weave your words :)

I find this more essentially surreal than it appears, with elements of a deeper philosophy:

Beauty is made out to be no security
I see a fine line in the levels of purity

congrats on finding the hidden riddle(;
I love this. You're very talented with words.
I love this verse in particular,

What tool is used to measure this hell?
Create it, and I'm damn sure it'll sell
Because it seems the more that I see
The more I crave to pack up and leave

To me it sort of resonates in that everyone has their own idea of suffering.

I am not the biggest fan of rhyming poetry, free verse give you more range... on saying that I really enjoyed this... many emotional layers embedded here.. it feels like one of those crossroads moments where you have to way the situation and decide whether to stay or go. Very nicely done.

What tool is used to measure this hell?
Create it, and I'm damn sure it'll sell

a lot of truth in this, in so many..

The answers are out there to find
I want to know which part's still blind

that is interesting, it can go in several ways..

lots of maturity and understanding in this piece

reminds me of that saying, its not the pen its the penner..

everyone has to start out somewhere.. the courage alone to simply begin, is half the battle..

very nicely done
