Ode To A Poet

saw him sitting in the subway with posters of poems he wrote and headlined by "Published in the N.Y. Times" This poem is to him...

ODE TO A POET

 

Sitting amidst a pile of papers

note books and

mole skin pads,

he allows metaphors

and syllables escape

from a secret passage in his mind.

I write these lines,

scratch them onto this page

to let you know

the real sage

sits on the subway floor,

dirty, tattered, homeless

but with eyes ablaze

determined to fill his books

with life; his life.

He lives in his poems.
