Lagunitas IPA

Lagunitas IPA

A Poem by redzone
"

the world doesn't have to be this way...

"

Lagunitas IPA**

Sitting in this IPA haze

wondering why this winter moon

is staring at me with its silver hue.

I wish it would stop.

Staring that is.

So I can fade

into my Lagunitas IPA

and quietly walk the beach

in Petaluna, Ca

alone.

Walking

bare foot,

sand laughing

between my toes,

laughing at the idiocy

of the hidden meaning

in beer bottle labels.

"Thanks for choosing to spend

the few minutes with the special

homicidally happy ale."*

~~~
Now I can understand
"homicidally happy"
since homicidal
is how I feel
after my third IPA!
And Kobain’s "The Man Who Ruled The World"
plays slap shot in my brain.
What? That’s suicide,
not homicide, right?
Homicide
Suicide.
What’s the difference?
Someone gets dead.
~~~

The IPA label continues:

"Savor the moment as the raging hop

character engages the

imperial qualities

of the malt foundation

in mortal combat

on the battle flied of your palate!"*

And of course the ultimate:

"Life is uncertain. Don’t sip!"

Bukowski would have loved

this philosophical touch,

drunken fool that he was.

~~~
But,
getting back to sipping,
battle fields,
mortal combat
and imperial qualities;
life is very certain -
short
and pointless.
So sipping is not an option.
But,
who really wins in this
homicidally happy adventure?
Gladiator?
Lion?
Or Imperial Rome!
~~~

Looking up,

this winter moon,

with its silver hue,

is still staring at me.

So I say,

are you just gonna stare

or get me another

La- goo- knee- tas IPA.

Three down, I need more.

Please, let’s make it number four.

As Bukowski,

in his stupor replies,

"Mortal Combat" anyone!

* These are the actual words found on the label of a Lagunitas IPA bottle. Honest.

** I wrote these lines while reading a book entitled "Matika and the River Lion, written by Latrice W. Simpkins. It is about the civil wars currently taking place in Central Afric (in this case Uganda), driven by the different imperialist powers over mineral rights and oil. It’s about raw power and its affects on the people there, especially women.

never really like Bukowski, way to cynical and hedonistic for me, which is a sort of metaphor for what is going on in the world today.... thanks for reading...

and of course there is always the "ironic Captcha... measly

Ha never know where your inspiration will come from. Philosophical touch of brilliance here curt, where might I find sand that laughs between my toes is what I wanna know? It's ironically light and dark in the same breath. Cheers, enjoy'd muchly!

My toes have been dipped in your stream of consciousness....and that is always wonderful!
"Walking
bare foot,
sand laughing
between my toes,"

FANTASTIC line.....I will definitely remember that one. Have to tell you, I did not even know what Lagunitas IPA was till I read this poem. The world does seem different after a few potent potables, yup. You have always been a champion of women's causes, my friend. That comes through loud and clear here. Bukowski is more my style.....cynical to the nth degree.....but your style, well, it is "nice." and a pleasure for me to read. LydI**
