No Leftovers

No Leftovers

A Poem by reubenmichael

I’m in debt to my monkey

‘Cause I take up too much of his time

Brushing my teeth

‘Cause I take up too much of his time

Cooking stir-fry

Tupperwaring leftovers

Entombing broccoli

Sometimes he tells me “run”

And I understand that I’m wrong

That he will be repaid

Next year

I should be sharpening my teeth

Or I may as well be

Ripping them out

I should be chasing the pedestrians outside my window

Screaming down strangers

I should consume in the moment

I should swallow my body weight

I should expand exponentially!

There should be no stir-fry

There will be no leftovers
