The Night Bird Sings

The Night Bird Sings

A Poem by Robert Filos

All the universe changed today
the roar of quietness quickly came
a lasting symbol of silent decay
ingrained within a violent reign

surrounded now complete with iron
rust awakened this the roaring lion
distant words and scenes long retired
be days gone away the final smile

as a leaf which turns before the rain
my body now contorts to the pain
questions as arrows flyby and away
is it I contained in this brain insane

yet the night bird sings darkness falls
my favorite songs she knows them all
the rest of humanity sleeps till dawn
me and my lady we sing all night long
