A flash fiction story about darkness

She screamed in the night and was comforted by nothing but fear. A cold wind scratched her back and she buried her face in leaves and bark, wishing to melt into nature, to find some comfort. But the ice-cold barrier between the natural and what she was froze her out.

Someone is coming, she told herself. Any minute now. The trees whipped furiously as the storm brewed. Any minute now.  As darkness wrapped her up and threatened to swallow her, he watched from far away. No one’s coming, he thought. And he walked away.

I like this. Very powerful imagery with only a few lines of text. Though, the ending is a bit, I don't know, messy? Maybe separating the last two sentences as it's own paragraph and combining into a single sentence could help.

This is beautifully haunting… you captured her fear perfectly. I'd have preferred it to be longer, though. Good job!
