American Bandstand or Soul Train

American Bandstand or Soul Train

A Poem by Richard Lane

I liked American  Bandstand but I loved Soul Train
and before you sit there reading this
and laughing while thinking
I must be joking
keep in mind I was born in 1969
and my Parents owned a Panasonic Record
Player with all
three speeds and an 8 track player
that I accidentally broke after
I pulled out the 8 track tape
because I couldn't stand to hear the sound of
Englebert Humperdink's voice when I was 3 in 1972.

Author's Note

Richard Lane
Happy memories of childhood are often great subjects to turn to whenever a writer feels like they're having a writer's block. Those moments aren't fun but your brain can only hold so many words and there are workplaces that don't always allow those who love writing to jot notes down.
