Dada or Die Show (October 11, 1991)

Dada or Die Show (October 11, 1991)

A Poem by Richard Lane
"

looking back to my entrance into spoken word performance even when i was so nervous i almost gave my spot to another performer. but i followed through and this is what happened in October 1991.

"

in order to remove the fear of shouting

my poesy into a microphone in front of well over

a hundred people

who had just watched another poet reading their work in front of a film screen with

images of various artists and

odd shapes surrounding their entire body I followed the directions of

an old friend who was fellow student

in a theatre class i took in 1990,

who suggested i use my nervousness as energy for speaking the line

and in my case my heart had already been sounding like a drum the moment i realized i

was gonna have to toss my trusty marble notebook

aside and recite what i had been looking at

from memory,

and then i read as loud as I could until the people in the back of the auditorium could

hear every word I said.
