the night falls

the night falls

A Poem by dan
"

an abstract look at an every day occurrence

"

the night falls

the night creeps forward

on silent rat-feet, looking to feed

on the vestiges of evening, the

remains of songs stamped out like wet

 cigarette butts

on star-lit streets.

street lamps screech like bats in zig-zag

flight, lighting only on pointed

wrought iron fences;

like the ones outside a bank

filled with a ransom demanded from

the innocent

children of hurt.

daylight is ready to intrude on this

macabre stage-play,

pulling curtains and breaking footlights,

pulling night away from its dampened

refuge

behind the clouded mountain,

untouched by the sun.
