little kitten, fuzzball in motion, prodding bros

Cat-alyst

 

Splashed with cute and

Littered with love, this runt

Of bristled fur stretched out her

Claw-tips to reach for the fuse to

Ignite her siblings’ charge.

These fuzz-rats (cool cats)

Chase runt with wild abandon

Through box of sand

And desert of curious, emboldened

By the one with mischief overrun

While thinking of curling

Her love in a whiskered

Clump of cute (again).

Hey Dan! First, and foremost, Lovely, lovely poem. It is heartwarming to see how the title of your poem plays out via how her reach for the fuse "ignite her siblings' charge". They are funny creatures indeed, cats, and so are many other animals.
Also, I really liked how you painted cats as having both the ability to run amok, and yet, maintain their cute personalities via becoming a "whiskered clump of cute", and the (again) just made me smile hahaha.
The form of your poetry is almost breathless, as everything is conjoined into a single stanza, which kind of resembles the whirlwind cats do to your house, hahahaha:)

Dan Im a little short of experience on the joys of owning a pet as such..but you certainly seemed to have a deep love for them and their innocence playfulness. This piece almost played out like an advertisement in my head when I read it. Great flow

Julie, I'm just sorry we can't have a cat now because our ferret (named riki) and our conure (a small breed of parrot...his name's Tucker) are the stars of the show now. Neither one is compatible with cats. Thanks for the great review. take care...dan

I'm a BIG cat lover...I have three, and they are like kids to me! I adore this, Dan. Is that graphic an actual photo of the runt? Did you know you can post photos on your homepage?

This is just WAY too cool! ...oh, and the descriptions are right on. It reads with the flow of the cats "wild abandon", the chase in their pursuits. And it's always about two in the morning, right? Good stuff here, Dan!!

Kelly, No I don't actually have any personal photos except the one of me on my profile and one each of our conure (bird) and ferret (riki). I'm a dinosaur (no camera, no cell-phone camera) and the picture of me is 11 years old. So its just a picture of a kitten I found on Bing Images. The memories are real, though. funny about runts---in animal families or in human families. We want to tease the heck out of them, pick on them, but hug them at the same time.

We have feral cats around our building and the runt of the litter that was born this summer comes in to our apartment to eat and get warm periodically. We named him Dandelion and he's my inspiration for this one. Thanks for the read/review. take care...dan
