Gifts of Christmas

Gifts of Christmas

A Poem by Christopher Ross Livingstone

Gifts of Christmas
By Christopher Ross Livingstone
Here we are
It's hard not to notice
Callenders echoes Christmans Bells
Feeling and senses taking in the festive
Walking through these streets
Stress upon the footfall
Shops swarming with pursuits
Purchacing perfect gits
To gift dearest ones
In Gifts of Christmas
This time, last year
Raw motion in emotions
Protected in shock
I was in a land of limbo
Lost in the land of grief
I walked the streets without
Like waiting to be found once more
Because I lost my mother dearest
So Christmas of 21 felt adrift
Reflections over this period
On these festive pages
Calenders mark the time to end this year
And I know this Winter Soltice and Yule is healing my heart
But my heart and lived experience cries onto these pages
Remincing the moments of childhood
Memories of Mum fill my heart
As I write with my heart
I take note on the meaning of Christmas
What is Gift of Christmas?
Christmas calenders of 2022 feels different
No card can fill a space missing at the table
Although senses are capturing the feeling of some colour and swing
But my heart is conflicted as it echoes the Christmas of the past
It craves another moment in time with her
My Mum's love sits in the missing space
Christmas is conflicted at heart
Because the Gift of Christmas
Would be to have another day with her!
