A Winter's Dream

A Winter's Dream

A Poem by Riss Ryker
"

Beautiful snowfall in the forest..

"

As night chased  the dawn, morning followed,
crunchy cold.
Treading upon the blanket of white,
bringing to light its fluffy surprise..

Snowfall in the woods.
The forest dressed in its winter gown,
showing off its snowy splender.
Dancing, downy, flakes
flash crystal rainbows.

The crisp morning air
spouted in great, grey bursts
through the nostrils of a stag.
Standing statue still, magnificent.

The business of winter is here.
Mother Nature a stern teacher.
Winter’s test, long and cold,
decides the fate of the forest.

Creatures don their winter dress.
Trading in summer frocks for winter splendor.
The city on the edge of the wood,
rises sleepily to greet the dawn.

Snow topped steeples,
walkways white, shovels ready.
Jack Frost designs the windows,
child’s delight.

Rosy cheeks; a winters kiss.
Snowball fights; hit and miss.
Frozen flakes of crystal ice,
melt on rosy cheeks, a winter’s kiss.
Snow designs a winter’s masterpiece.

Riss, it's like a Thomas Kinkade Christmas collection: the descriptions are so powerful like the bitter cold and snow piled up high and a tsuani of flakes, but everyone's happy, warm and covered; nature's family hidden away - it is a winter's masterpiece, like the landslide that stood still: Snow topped steeples, walkways white, shovels ready. Love it. Dale

You have potrayed winter beautifully. I have much too many favourite lines in here to quote. All I can say is well done! You have captured the winter spirit and that's a miracle in itself. I think the title "Winter's tale" would suit this poem too. Just a suggestion...

I'm such a winter person, and I just adore every descriptive line of this, Riss! I may be a California girl now, but my heart will always remember the sound of crunching snow beneath my feet.

I'm so glad I came across this one...what a delight it was to read!

I'm more a fan of fall than winter, but I like this idea of winter as a beautiful gown. This piece is rich with images both glamorous-majestic and stern.
