Unlike cats, we don't believe that the best cat games include attacking your feet under the blankets and tearing apart your leather couch, but we do believe that cats do believe that. Because we are GamesRadar, the best cat games will be video games that have something to do with cats. At the very least, you can enjoy these games while in the vicinity of your cat, or if you have a cat who enjoys watching television, you can play them alongside your feline companion.

We've compiled a list of the best cat games from recent memory for your convenience (we expect Stray to appear on this list once it is released), so you won't have to waste time searching the internet for them. There are a variety of genres and play styles represented in these games, but they are all united by the unique appeal of a cat that can be your best friend one minute and a terrifying property-destroying terror the next. That's fantastic.

Here are some of the best cat games available.

Trap The Cat
Trap the Cat is a game in which a cat is trapped inside a board with boxes that have been checked. To win, you must keep it locked up and prevent it from escaping. To win this game, you'll need to be quick and strategize. What you'll need to do is capture the feline. Don't let the cat out of the bag!

Trap The Cat is a popular game that attracts a large number of players on a daily basis. Even though the gameplay is straightforward, you'll need to be aware of a few strategies and tips in order to be successful in this game. You must prevent the cat from escaping your panel by clicking on it every time it moves in a certain direction.

Nintendogs + Cats

In spite of the fact that it was released as a launch title for the 3DS a decade ago - and cats will never forgive Nintendo for giving them second billing in the game - Nintendogs + Cats is still one of the best cat games ever created. When you play with 3D enabled, it truly feels like you're looking through a small window into their home, thanks to its adorable recreations of three kitten breeds (standard, oriental, and longhair) that you can befriend. Unfortunately, you will not be able to teach the kittens tricks or take them out on the town in the same way that you can with their puppy counterparts, but they will sneak away and bring you gifts on occasion to demonstrate that they truly care. It's true that none of the gift options are dead birds or mice, but it's okay to make a realism concession every now and then.

Catlateral Damage

In order to fully immerse yourself in the concept of playing as a cat, you will eventually want to start knocking things off the table. That is the entire premise of Catlateral Damage: you must leap around procedurally generated environments in search of the most breakable stuff, then break what you find. The occasional special event will appear in which you can chase and catch a mouse or something similar, but ultimately it's all about the sweet satisfaction of destroying something else's hard work. When played on a standard flat-screen, Catlateral Damage is a lot of fun. However, it's even better when played in virtual reality with full motion controls for an even more immersive a*****e cat experience.

Gato Roboto

What if Samus Aran was a cat, but he did pretty much the same things as she did as a human? When this happens, you'll be playing Gato Roboto, a retro sidescroller that combines unabashed Metroid-style action with stylishly lo-fi pixel art and music. While Kiki, the intrepid ship's cat, must carry on the mission of her human (because she's a big part of the reason he's trapped on his ship), she'll be curling up in a suit of power armor and blasting through caverns full of hostile creatures - but she'll also need to pop out every now and then to make the most of her feline agility and smaller profile. Gato Roboto is a short and minimalist Metroid-style game that is perfect for when you need a little more cat action in your life.

Blacksad: Under the Skin

This film noir-inspired detective adventure game is sort of like what would happen if The Wolf Among Us was renamed The Cat Among Us and if everyone was literally made up of animals. You take on the role of John Blacksad, a private detective who is also a World War II veteran and a big, muscular catman, as you investigate one of the most difficult cases of his career. While his story is intertwined with the rest of the Blacksad comic series, you are not required to be familiar with it in order to enjoy the game - you simply must be prepared for a hardboiled detective story of the highest caliber. Despite the fact that Blacksad: Under the Skin has some rough edges in terms of how it feels to move around the world and find clues, its reactive story (which has six different endings depending on your choices) is well worth playing for grizzled cat fans of all stripes.

Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector

No list of the best cat games would be complete without mentioning the ultimate kitty collecting game for mobile devices, Kitty Collecting. This is an extremely simple experience: you simply set out toys, treats, and furniture in your yard while you wait for cats to show up and take advantage of your generosity. That's all there is to it! A large part of the enjoyment comes from "collecting" all the different varieties of cats that roam through your neighborhood, then using the gifts they leave behind to purchase even more cat-luring goodies, expanding and renovating your home to make it more cat-attractive, and so on. There are even some extremely rare cats that you will only be able to see if you put together the perfect set of circumstances. When you play Neko Atsume, you'll find that it becomes a part of your daily routine, and who wouldn't want to include more adorable cartoon cats in their daily routine?
