The Dark Night

I have fallen into the dark night

Cannot see one speck of light

Moon has vanished in the clouds

It wears them like burial shrouds

No stars in the sky can be seen

I am motionless like a fly in vasoline

Entranced by the silence that surrounds

The deafening nothingness of no sound

A desert wind pierces my face

Like Poseidon's derringer out of place

The dark night can be cruel to a broken heart

Cannot put the pieces back together apart

The Sun will never again play its rising role

As the dark night swallows me whole
