What could have been

What could have been

A Poem by ron

What could have been

She waited for him,

on the wedding day,

the day he was supposed to be there.

In love all will concur

She stood at the altar alone,

“He forgot me.”

Was all she could think.

Unknown to her his body what was left of it,

waiting to be picked up.

No open casket would be shown.

He cried past the grave,

his tears fell from Heaven onto the folded flag.

His love shown over the wedding day like a rainbow of passion.

But she never saw what was shown her.

Beyond the flag and roses,

I love you beyond the stars,

I will love you beyond the grave,

was the words she heard in her heart.

As she looked into the sky,

she saw a rainbow of shooting stars,

that spoke to her beyond the grave.

Now her children are grown,

and they ask…

“Who was the you only love?”

“He was my dream,

my true love,

and your father.”

You are welcome :)
A very sad poem. When true love is lost. Hard to find the willing heart again. War steal the best from us. I keep in touch with children of friends lost in Iraq. I tell them. There father loved them first and always. A powerful poem. Touches old thoughts and memories. Thank you for sharing the powerful poetry.
