And the night carried through the years

And the night carried through the years

A Poem by ron

And the night carried through the years

Of all the gen joints, and all the towns, and all the world…she walks into mine.

True love came,

and in midnight's glow,

she left.

She left my heart on the pillow,

waiting to be heard.

When I awoke after the foggy night,

and saw her standing on the runway,

waiting for us to board the waiting plane,

I knew we could never be together.

It was her husband that needed her more than I did,

it was her husband she loved.

After the liquor and fog cleared,

after the heartbeat of love needed in that moment,

stopped beating,

it was what needed to be said.

I told her I didn't love her,

I told her that she needed to be by her husband’s side.

Ya I told her a lie,

I told her what she needed to hear,

I told her what should have been said the moment we first met.

But in truth (and never tell her this),

she was what I wanted and needed,

she made my life worth meaning something.

And for that she will always have my love.
