A Poem by Rosauro Brillantes
"

Couldn't sleep one night

"

I'll wake up in the middle of the night, and look out the window pane.
And I'll think about you and wonder, if you're doing the exact same.
And as much as it will pain me, I'll start to reminisce,
About how I first met you, and how you were my first "true" kiss.
I'll think about the senses, that I can trigger back.
Most treasured thing I carry, with my heart, that's colored black.
Her look was stern but sweet, and she smelled of vanilla spice
I knew then that I loved her, and not even thought about it twice.
Time slowly crept behind us, while we were still a pair.
Subtract that that one from two, and I'll look at her,,,
but she's no longer there.
The reason why I write this, is because I'm missing that one from above..
From what I read, "Nothing can beat your 'first true' love.
Emphasize the "first true", because its the one that matters most.
No condition, lust, or reason to keep her, for you to boast.
I've met many girls before her, and so surely she wasn't the "first"
And it's the way she did it into me, and for her love, I'll always thirst.
I'll always look at our pictures, and inevitably break down.
I'll put on a smile around my buds, but my heart will wear a frown.
Strong memories projecting clearly during our most romantic times.
Cry out to have them once again, that love, once sweet and sublime.
But now lets take it to the time right now. Right up to the present.
I still look up to you as my queen. You look down me like a peasant.
Harsh, bitter words used more than once, to get our point across.
Get across and hurt me, those words leave me at "lost".
However, you left me lonely, but it's not only me you left behind.
A piece of you - your wisdom, and memories I can call mine.
You taught me how it's like to love. Willingly give your life away.
But now I cannot do that, because of what I am today.
I'm conservative more than ever, lugging 'round my frozen heart.
Pray time will pass much faster. Get over the fact that we're apart.
The first true love that I had, will never come again.
So I'll wait for my "second" true love to come, but then,,,
I'll keep my heart open for you only, in case you decide we can at least be friends.
I miss you.
