Wave

Lone brave wave upon the ocean

Adrift midst endless sea and sky

Do you ponder your existence?

Or merely swell, then crest and die

What’s Life’s purpose?  I’ve no notion

Adrift midst pointless dreams and sighs

At Life’s end dissolves all pretense
All lies depart as Night draws nigh

Serene wave upon the ocean

Teach me peace and not to cry

For death’s terror provide defense

Don’t let Life’s riches, fear deny

For Life's sorrow grant me potion

And for my days contentment buy

With self-ego I will dispense

Disperse like wave, not asking why

Such poignant words conveyed with real emotions felt throughout this beautiful write.
"Do you ponder your existence"
"Or merely swell, then crest and die"

I loved your use of metaphor here, the thought of been a lost soul out at sea is a very sad thought indeed.

Beautifully conveyed Rick

I loved the first stanza, it could be a poem standing alone. Grabbed me instantly.

Wow! Simple yet profound! This really speaks to me as I tend to relate so much of life to water. A lovely serene ebb and flow to this reflective, contemplative poem. A delight to read and ponder! I'm definitely adding this one to my favorites.

I first read this quite quickly and immediately thought of that one wave being a human being seeing the ocean as his or her life. On second reading I felt the water .. I am a water being .. and felt the calm and beauty of it .. always there, always different, always touched by the light and air and moon and all else. If you sit or stand - sitting's better, the sea can exhilerate or calm .. it's somehow magical, it can inevitably give the feeling one's looking for.

This is beautiful. I'd like to copy then embroider it and have these lovely words hanging on a wall.
