Awe

And later

lying in the charged
 moments

after loving

an embryonic smile

makes its way from

the curve of your lips

and in that instant

of soft drifting union

I look into the face

of a child grown to be

all that is a man

post love-making vulnerability allows that childhood innocence to appear satisfyingly in an awestruck smile... I really love how you leave it to the imagination of the reader to piece together the moments leading up to that smile while retaining the sense of innocence throughout... and, the use of 'embryonic' is genius in likening the quiet smile of contentment after making love to the contentment in the womb.. I believe I should stop rambling now... a beautiful write, Rubie! :)

Thank you for your kind review, Sharon.
My little man has one more year of college...and I couldn't be more proud! But I drift back in time and well remember, the little boy he once was.

Simply beautiful, Rubie!

It seems to me that no matter how old they get, we will always see that child they once were. I kno.. read more
there is always that bit of child in us when we make love...the reckless abandon that for the most part we lose as youth fades from us and the future makes us grow up. Great to still have those moments.

Ahhh, this is really beautiful dear friend. I was reading and thinking of my little boy's face, and his smile, and the day when he will be a man too. Only a mother can write such wonderful verses!!
