Pointless Retaliation

Pointless Retaliation

A Poem by runningturtle87
"

What is the point of revenge and retaliation? There will ultimately be no justice or satisfaction in loss, no matter how we react.

"
Layers and layers

of layers

congregate at the mouth

of our drowning;

what has us

is not the weight

but rather the complexity.

Beneath each wave,

and hidden by the next,

flowing deep

with the undertow,

we reason that

somewhere

a let up

will emerge.

"As many rounds

as it takes,"

we think.

Suffocating

under the shadows

of the things

unrevealed,

we try

to catch our breath.

And those

who cannot

quiet empathize

pity us

as the surf covers

their faces

gasping

for air.
