No Longer

No Longer

A Poem by Ricky Whitefield
"

So often we find our friendships falling into disrepair. They become stale. Yet it is only us, who have the power to change and transform, to rescue all that is precious.

"

Our friendship is dancing on a razor’s edge

preparing to cut deep into the soul.

Our feet are firmly planted in mid-air;

we no longer have any grounding.

Our hands gesticulate aimlessly;

we no longer reach out to embrace.

Our eyes pierce through the darkness of lies;

we no longer enjoy security or loyalty.

Our mouths utter soundbites;

 we no longer flirt with meaningful semantics.

Our ears are fortified sound barriers;

we are no longer able to hear the cry of the other.

Our hearts ambushed by negative impulses;

we are no longer aching with love.

If we no longer possess these gifts,

what do we have?
