with dawn the sun besieged the earth

with dawn the sun besieged the earth

A Poem by Mike Melanson

with dawn the sun besieged the earth
to stir the weary to their feet,
and faced but once again with birth
they contemplate what waits to greet
them in emerging hues of light
and hesitate to stand, afraid
to leave the comfort of the night,
and meet those thoughts already laid
to rest, to leave that land of sleep
where impasse on a whim may yield
to fancies of a frightful leap
and mortal blows are merely healed
like wishes of an infant mind
they hesitate to stand, succumb
to all the worldly ways, unkind,
that surely with that day shall come
