These Bloody Hands

These Bloody Hands

A Poem by Zach Colgate
"

A guilt shared by us all . . .

"

I see hands--such familiar hands

Marring beauty with whip, thorn, and nail

Stealing life from its giver

And hoisting up for humiliation

I hear a voice--such a familiar voice

Adding insult to injury with taunt, curse, and jeer

Unknowingly forgiven for the words it formed

And going on without shame

Bloody good I would say and the symbolism is not lost here. Reminds me a bit of my poem "Martyr: Carrying the Cross". Well done.
