Downhill of Heaven

Downhill of Heaven

A Poem by Zach Colgate
"

When a sinner loves an angel . . .

"

Meet me downhill of heaven

Just before you reach the gate

It is here I’ll say goodbye

It is here that I will wait

One last kiss for a sinner

Just short of your Father’s eye

I would hate to see His shame

Just a kiss and one more lie

I’ll just wait outside

Until some future age

When you’re welcoming the Saints

To write their names upon that page

Please toss me a smile

If you see me from afar

A sinner as I am

An angel as you are

I’ll wait here forever

Just downhill of heaven
