![]() As We CameA Story by Jay![]() An exploration into death, and the beauty that comes with it.![]() His smile never faltered, even as he
watched the metal doors close around her, shutting the book to a chapter in his
life that he had cherished oh so dearly.
Tears were never shed, even as he sorted
out all her clothes, folding them and putting them ever so gently into a box.
Cries never left his mouth, even as he sat
alone at the dinner table eating, staring at the vacant chair sitting
at the other end of the table.
Even now, as he sits alone in an old
rickety boat made for two, the same content smile graces his wrinkled face. The
lake laps around the hull, and with the grace of a swan, the boat slides up and
down through the waters, rocking gently the passenger it carries. He lifts his
hands, trembling with the cold. Leaning over the side, he watches silently as
ashes fall through his gloved fingers, fluttering down into the blue waters
beneath him. Soon, countless specks of grey adorn on the skin of the water
around the boat, like snow on a winter’s night.
His smile never falters, even as he lays
himself down in the boat, resting his head on her favourite dress, and closes
his eyes.
His smile grows though, when he finally
sees her again.
