Rich Man’s World        by Sami Khalil

A modern English sonnet…

It is a rich man’s world with gilded lives

Cash flow defined, enormously wealthy

Immortal in their minds, taunting high fives

Touching white fluffy clouds, duly glitzy.

Sadly, they look over their wide shoulders

Odder than predicted dangers looming

With off-putting loads like heavy boulders

Listed worries stay well alive, blooming.

In fields of daze, servants work tirelessly

To fill bank vaults for their cherished masters

With no compassion by a dynasty

Widens the gap through rich and poor actors.

Neither grieve the poor nor envy the rich

For pelf’s chains bind many worldlings bewitched.

What has happened to the middle class.?.. in our society today it's either the rich or the poor, because of many factors, like inflation, rising prices of food and basics... the middle class has somehow become less able to afford and live rent check to rent check; the rich (who can afford to save and put money to invest) is getting richer while the poor can hardly, put food on the table and the middle class is getting wiped out...because they are not rich and they are by statistics not poor either, but they struggle Well done!

the middle class is being squeezed out. it has indeed become a "rich man's world". can be an obsession. it often doesn't end with money - next comes power. rich and poor both have their problems. i wonder if people still take a marriage vow of, "for richer or poorer" anymore? “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” you can't put a price on a good night's sleep.

We sure need the middle class as a buffer zone.

So true and well articulated. Gracie millee
The rich becoming wealthy off the backs of others. Never having enough always wanting more. The poor never having much; slaving away to make their masters rich. The price is emotional physical and mental damage but little care is taken to the poor.

All true and well articulated. Not good. Middle class is like a buffer zone.
