Foresight

An English Sonnet

Foresight                        Sami Khalil

An English Sonnet

Beware of what you wish for to happen

For you could get the short end of the stick

Downwind, events fan out, surely slacken

Flapping through wonted way, wistfully flick.

Coppice your expectations where things flicker

Steady the self always through thick and thin

Raise not your fist madly as to bicker

A second go nettles not lasting grin.

Show me a man who did not learn to swim

Mustn’t stand startled at calamities

The fool shovels up his holes at a whim

While the wise judders not his faculties.

Let me implore you in the smog of days

To boil your "Cauldron” good, for foresight pays.

My take on the message:
Sometimes your wishes don't get your desired results as things play out. May not be as bad as you think, and your perception of them can change.
Be calm and steady with your thoughts, and don't hastily and blindly overreact when things don't go your way. Learn what you can to prepare yourself, and react thoughtfully. Some situations are murky and confusing. Don't mindlessly discard your past efforts and calmly think ahead.

We have a tendency to get the good out that we put in regardless of the situation. Am I on the right track?

A very well written sonnet. As always, your choice of vocabulary is stellar. Yes, the young people of today need foresight even more than us old folks did. Nothing is written in stone and one must prepare for all possible outcomes. Great philosophical thoughts here. Lydi**

Dear Sami, a sonnet for current times if ever there was one. Some excellent lines. Your poetic expression is top notch dear poet. Foresight, I reckon most of us would like that on our shopping list. In awe of your sonnets.

In hindsight, we didn't have the foresight to coppice our expectations...and I know a man who never learned to swim from the first lesson, and might just drown this time around.
So well done...nice slant rhyme with calamaties and faculties...
You never disappoint, Sami.
