delirium

delirium

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

when the nightsongs drift to me
over balmy tropic winds
i breathe in deeply of music
and exhale the sweet, salty measures
of time.

you once touched me
in the secret hours
of the night
and stirred symphonies
upon the salt
of my skin.

i sit here tonight
and shiver at the tendency
of my delicate heart
to clutch at
your memory.

the wind is gentle
and possesses a playful lure
i taste the palm trees
in the air
- i glance down at my hand-
and want your fingers there.

the nightsongs are passionate
and stir my secret soul
to dream
[it is all so much more]
so much more than it seems.

this silly life and this
humid night
and the blurry truths
in the corners of
my sight.

so i close my eyes
and let the music caress
my skin
[the wind is my lover]
but you are my sin.

i sit here tonight
and shiver at the tendency
of my delicate heart
to clutch at
your memory

the air is tight
(compressed with anticipation)
and the world is humid
- saturated with something sweet -
but all i feel
is this heat
[this heat]

the delirious heat
of memory.

oh wow, i dont really have much time to pick out specific lines, but this blew me away. I'm not sure about the brackets though, there's a couple places where I just don't get why you used them...but the parenthesis at the end with the constraint line cleared that up. I'll write up a longer review when I have time. excellent piece though!

Great!!! what a wonderful flow, i could almost feel the night tropical air on my skin! the part, "of my delicate heart to clutch at your memory" was my favorite. written with such delicacy, but filled with such delirious heat. good job.

Kara, as I was reading this poem, I kept thinking how awesome it would be as song lyrics. I love lines like 'the wind is my lover.' The other thing about 'delirium' is that you can FEEL what the narrator/poet is experiencing: 'the air is tight', 'balmy tropic nights', etc. Nicely done.

'the delirious heat
of memory."

ah, truer words have never been spoken. This was one of my favorite pieces I've encountered thus far. It grabbed my attention and kept me interested and engaged. I can definitely relate the the speaker. My favorite lines:

you once touched me
in the secret hours
of the night
and stirred symphonies
upon the salt
of my skin.

They just jumped out at me. I had to read them several times to let it all sink in! Great write, thanks for sharing.

How you awaken a memory so soft and clear, played through the wind like music! So passionate and beautiful!

Kara, I absolutely love your writing. You have such a strong voice and the way you piece together words is very inspiring in itself. This is a great example of that, too. The feelings you express to the reader are very easily felt in this piece. Great job, once again!

Here's my favorite:

so i close my eyes
and let the music caress
my skin
[the wind is my lover]
but you are my sin.

Oh man, that's just freakin' gorgeous! I love it. Thanks for letting us read this.

Unbelievably good! Outstanding piece! My favorite stanza has to be:
"so i close my eyes
and let the music caress
my skin
[the wind is my lover]
but you are my sin."

Oh! Sent chills up my spine! Don't get me wrong, the rest of the poem was just as good, but that particular stanza could simply stand alone. Great work, Kara!
